Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3: how a beginner should choose a GEO

"Run traffic to the US, they pay the most" is the most expensive advice a beginner can get. Here's why a payout must be compared with the click price, not judged on its own.

What GEO tiers are

GEOs are grouped into tiers by audience purchasing power and ad cost. Tier-1 — the US, Canada, Western Europe: high payouts and the most expensive clicks. Tier-2 — Eastern and Southern Europe, parts of Latin America. Tier-3 — Southeast Asia, parts of Africa and Latin America: cheap traffic and modest payouts.

TIER-1TIER-2TIER-3 $45$1.6$22$0.45$9$0.12 payout per action cost per click (click bars ×20)
Example numbers for one offer type. What matters isn't the payout but how many clicks it takes to earn it and what those clicks cost.

Calculate, don't believe

Say the click-to-paid-action conversion is 3%. That means about 33 clicks per action:

GEOPayoutCost of 33 clicksLeft per actionCost of a mistake
Tier-1$45$53−$8high
Tier-2$22$15+$7medium
Tier-3$9$4+$5low

At the same conversion rate Tier-1 loses money: it takes a noticeably stronger setup to pay off there. And a Tier-1 test costs several times more — a beginner learns faster where mistakes are cheaper.

Where to start

  • Tier-2 and Tier-3 — first launches: cheap tests, fast numbers, clear mechanics (often cash on delivery).
  • Tier-1 — once the angle is proven and you can read the funnel.
  • Look beyond the payout: language, payment habits and moderation strictness change the economics just as much.
